Meet the Doctors

Michelle S Gerdes, MD, Dermatology

Michelle S Gerdes is a native New Orleanian growing up in the suburbs of Metairie. She is a proud graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School graduating as Valedictorian in 1992. She attended Tulane University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in three and a half years after successfully defending her thesis in Cell and Molecular Biology. She went on to earn her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. After finishing an internship in Internal Medicine, she completed her residency in dermatology at LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans.

Dr Gerdes and her husband, Robby were married the same year she entered medical school and have been married 28 years. They have 3 children, their first child was born during the early and challenging years of medical school, their second and first daughter was born during Dr. Gerdes' second year of medical training, and their third child, the second daughter was born after residency.

Dr Gerdes joined private practice, Academic Dermatology Associates in July 2005 and the city suffered immense loss and devastation in August of that same year when Hurricane Katrina targeted our area. The practice reopened in September 2005 and has been going strong since that time. She and her partner, Dr Tami Charbonnet, purchased the practice in 2017 and rebranded to Family Dermatology Associates. The practice moved to its current location in 2006 and we have enjoyed serving patients of all ages in our local community.

Dr. Gerdes enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family. In addition, she and her family enjoy attending sporting events such as football, baseball, and gymnastics.

Tamale L. Charbonnet, M.D., Dermatology

Dr. Charbonnet was born and raised in the New Orleans area. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mount Carmel Academy in 1989 and Loyola University in 1993 as a Presidential Scholar. She attended LSU Medical School where she graduated at the top of her class as a member of The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her residency training at LSU in New Orleans in 2001 and served as the Chief Resident of Dermatology.

Dr. Charbonnet married her husband, Jeff Charbonnet in 1998 and they have 3 beautiful daughters.

After her residency, she served as a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at LSU for four years and worked at Grafton Dermatology in Houma and Thibodaux.

In 2017 she started Family Dermatology Specialists, LLC with her partner, Dr. M. Gerdes. Starting this private practice has been like a dream come true because it allows us to care for our patients in a very personal and direct way.

Special interests are reading and travel. Favorite activities are spending time with husband, children, and family dog.

Dr. Trieu, Dermatology, MOHS

 Dr. Trieu is a board certified dermatologist with fellowship training in  procedural (surgical and cosmetic) dermatology.  She trained at Tulane  for medical school and dermatology residency.  She trained with world  renowned Dr. Leonard Goldberg in Houston, Texas for her procedural  fellowship.
